Mission to a Million – My 50th Birthday Challenge
Most sensible people celebrate turning 50 by chucking a party. Not me however…
This year, to mark the milestone, I’m taking on without a doubt the most physical fitness challenge I will have ever undertaken.
And It’s not the 1st time I’ve put myself through my paces to welcome a new decade. For my 40th my wife Lottie and I headed off to Uganda and ran their inaugural marathon which was a truly life-changing experience.
But this challenge drops a further gear and will push both my physical and mental fortitude to the limit and to get ‘match fit’ I’ve been putting in a huge shift for the past 6 months to get my ageing body into shape.
My gym buddy Mark and I are going to lift one million kilograms between us in just a week on the 25th May.
This will be achieved through 14 workouts in a week, two workouts a day for 7 days broken down as follows each session –
Deadlifts 125kg – 100 reps (12,500kg)
Chest Press 100kg – 100 reps (10,000kg)
Pull ups with a weighted vest 100kg – 100 reps (10,000kg)
Arms (biceps and triceps) – 3,375kg
Total KG lifted per session = 35,875 kg
Daily total (2 sessions) = 71,750 kg
Per week 14 sessions over 7 days = 502,250 kg
It’s going to be brutal, the training has been hardcore and relentless but I’m loving it. It’s been the most energising thing I’ve done in years and I’m embracing the journey with both Mark and our brilliant PT John, whom we can’t thank enough for his guidance and knowledge.
